| Jon Lester seems to have put his early season struggles behind him. In his first three starts, he went 0-3 with a 6.62 ERA. In the three starts since, he is 3-0 with a 1.48 ERA, with a shutout two starts ago and an almost shutout today. Lester goes into the 9th with a 4-0 lead, but after getting one out and allowing a hit I go to the bullpen and give Scott Schoeneweis some action with the four run lead. That lead quickly evaporates in half when Hideki Matsui greets Schoeneweis with a 2-run homer over the fence. Next batter Juan Rivera singles, so in comes Paps who entices a doubleplay grounder off the bat of Howie Kendrick to end the game and gets his second save in as many days. With the win, it puts the Sox over the .500 mark for the first time this season. |

Catcher Victor Martinez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Jon Lester whiffed 10
batters as the Boston Red Sox topped the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by a score of
4 to 2 at Fenway Park.
Lester(3-3) gave Boston a solid outing. He allowed only 6 hits and 1 walk in
8 and 1/3 innings dropping his ERA from 4.28 to 3.64. Los Angeles(AL) made
it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 3rd save. Ervin Santana(2-2) suffered the
loss. Lester was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun
out there. The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates. We got
the victory and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts anytime!'
