April 26, 2010 Red Sox 10, Blue Jays 1

The power-laden Blue Jays were the only team in the majors to hit more homeruns than the Red Sox in 2010, but that power was absent today. Josh Beckett is masterful on the mound, making everyone forget about his first three horrid starts. Backett retires the first 15 batters to face him until walking Jose Bautista to lead off the 6th inning. That was the only baserunner allowed by Beckett as he enters the 9th inning. He gets the first out in the 9th, but Travis Snider gets hold of the next pitch and blasts it over the wall to say goodbye no-hitter and shutout on one pitch. Next batter Fred Lewis singles, and Scott Schoenweis takes over with a wak and a doubleplay ending the game.

The Sox had all the lumber today, with two homeruns for Mike Lowell as he knocks in 4 and a 3-run shot for Dustin Pedroia to go along with a solo homerun for Kevin Youkilis. Also a nice 3 for 4 day for Adrian Beltre.

In a bit of trivia, the Blue Jays homerun total in 2010 of 257 ranks in a tie for third most for a team in history with the 1996 Orioles. The 1997 Seattle Mariners hold the record with 264, the 2005 Rangers run second with 260 followed by the Orioles and Blue Jays totals of 257.

WEB GEMS- Bot 7th: Josh Beckett robbed Aaron Hill of a base hit.

Josh Beckett didn't allow a hit until the 9th inning and Mike Lowell smashed 2
homeruns and had 4 RBI at Rogers Centre where the Boston Red Sox beat the
Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 10 to 1.

The Toronto fans didn't appreciate the big day Lowell had. He clubbed a
three-run home run in the 3rd inning and ripped a solo home run in the 5th
inning. Boston finished with 12 hits while Toronto ended up with 2.

Beckett(1-3) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. The
right-handed Beckett lost a no-hitter when Travis Snider homered with one out
in the 9th inning. Dana Eveland(1-1) was given the loss. He served up 3
gopher balls in 5 and 1/3 innings.
