| The Phils travel to Phoenix for stop number two on the road trip, and a back and forth game against the D'Backs finally goes Philly's way when Jayson Werth leads off the top of the 8th by knocking one over the fence. The Phils scored first in the first inning with 4 walks by Arizona starter Kris Benson, but the Diamondbacks take the lead in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run homer for Mark Reynolds. Pacido Polanco's first homer of the year is good for two runs and a 3-2 lead in the top of the 2nd, bur Chris Young answers with a 2-run shot of his own in the bottom of the 4th for a 4-3 Arizona lead. The Phillies get a run back in the 6th, and then Werth wins the game in the 8th. It all takes Cole Hamels off the hook and he goes to 3-0 while striking out a season high 12 batters in 7 2/3 innings. |

Cole Hamels retired 12 batters on strikeouts as the Philadelphia Phillies
topped the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 5 to 4 at Chase
Field.
Hamels(3-0) gave a fine effort for Philadelphia. He went 7 and 1/3 innings
allowing 5 hits and 1 walk and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. This was the
kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.
Hamels was helped out by Ryan Madson who recorded his 2nd save. Aaron
Heilman(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 2/3
of an inning.
'I had my good stuff tonight.' Hamels said. 'As the game went along I started
to get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'
