April 20, 2010 Mets 5, Cubs 4 (17)

This game, believe it or not, was a 1-1 tie after the regulation 9 innings when each team scored in the 6th. Chicago looked to finally break the tie in te top of the 11th on a double, walk and an RBI single for Derrick Lee. But, the Mets come back on a walk, a grounder sending the runner to second and pitcher Raul Valdes taking himself off the hook for a loss with an RBI double to retie the game. In the top of the15th, the Cubs looked to take the lead for good this time wit ha Jeff Baker 2-run homerun. Unbelievably, the Mets come back again in the bottom of the 15th with two runs of their own on consecutive RBI singles by Jason Bay and Ike Davis, now with a 4-4 tie. Finally, after coming back to tie the game three times already, the Mets break the ice for good in the bottom of the 17th after walks to David Wright and Bay with Jeff Francoeur knocking home Wright on a walk-off single.

While Wright did score the winning run after getting on base via walk, his batting average took a big hit with an 0 for 8 performance. The hit by Bay in the 15th was his 5th of the game, with a 5 for 6 performance along with two walks. Most amazing, not one of the six Mets pitchers this game have an ERA over 2.00.

Another interesting game for the day, eeriely similar to Game 4 of your World Series - Kevin Jepsen of the Angels, coming into a game against the Tigers in the top of the 11th with runners of second and third with no outs and a 3-3 tie, throws a wild pitch to allow a run to score. Not done yet, he walks a batter to put runners on first and third, lets another one fly to the backstop for another run, and for good measure throws one more wild for three wild pitches in the inning. Needless to say, the Tigers won the game 5-3.
