June 25, 2010 Phillies 3, Blue Jays 1

Despite all of Roy Halladay's struggles in his new home, apparently playing in front of his former hometown fans gives him life. Halladay gets one of the best starts of his short Phillie career north of the border as the Phils dispatch the Jays with ease despite leaving 13 men on base in the semi-annual 1993 World Series rematch.

Speaking of 1993, the final player who played on either team that year has retired, although at the time of this game it wasn't official yet. Carlos Delgado, who was a 20 year old fresh faced rookie during a two game cup of coffee callup toward the end of that 1993 season (as a catcher!) for the Blue Jays, did not play again in the majors after the 2009 season and finally called it a career in April of 2011. He didn't play in the post season in 1993, but nonetheless got a World Series ring and put 17 years of solid work in for the Jays, Marlins and Mets. Those two games were the only two that mainly first baseman Delgado served behind the plate during his entire career.

Roy Halladay(5-8) and Jesse Litsch(0-2) treated the Toronto fans to a fine
pitching duel at Rogers Centre. The Philadelphia Phillies eventually emerged
as victors over the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 3 to 1.

Philadelphia brought 2 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning. That scoring
would be all that was needed. Philadelphia rapped out 8 hits for the night.

Brad Lidge was credited with his 4th save.

June 25, 2010 Red Sox 5, Giants 2

The Sox have Jonathan Sanchez to thank today. Sanchez had major control problems right off the bat, as after a groundout he walks 5 of the next seven batters in the first inning while the Sox score four runs and bat around. Sanchez settles down after than, and the early support is more than enough for Tim Wakefield and the relief corps to handle with ease.

In an entertaining game at AT&T Park the final score was the Boston Red Sox 5,
the San Francisco Giants 2.

Boston promptly took the lead in their half of the first as they scored 4 runs
on 2 base hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Both teams ended
up with 6 hits on the night.

Tim Wakefield(4-3) allowed 2 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory.
Wakefield got help from Jonathan Papelbon who was credited with his 12th
save. Jonathan Sanchez(3-8) took the loss. He allowed Boston 5 runs in 4
innings of work.

With this win, Boston has a 39-36 record. They have been 5-5 lately. San
Francisco has a record of 30-42, worst in the division after the loss.

June 25, 2010 A's 21, Pirates 6

Just wanted to toss this one in there. Bad sign for Pittsburgh when it takes three pitchers to get through the first inning, the opponents send 16 batters to the plate and get 10 runs. Oakland just kept pouring it on as the Pirates go through their entire bullpen. The A's join their California counterparts, the Angels, as the two teams so far to score 20 or more runs in a game. The Angels did it is a 20-11 slugfest over the Red Sox.

Both Kurt Suzuki and Ryan Sweeney of the A's get 5 hits and each knock home 5 RBIs in the game, career highs for both. I would doubt there has ever been a game before with two players getting five hits and five RBI in the same game.

WEB GEMS- Top 5th: Coco Crisp robbed Garrett Jones of an extra base hit.

Catcher Kurt Suzuki had 5 hits and 5 RBI as the Oakland Athletics man-handled
the Pittsburgh Pirates - the final score was 21 to 6.

Suzuki was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He laced a
one-base hit in the 1st inning, ripped a base-hit which plated a run in the
1st inning, ripped a solo home run in the 3rd inning, slapped a single
bringing in two baserunners in the 4th inning and doubled scoring a run in
the 5th inning. Oakland provided plenty of action in the 1st inning with 10
runs on 8 hits and the 4th inning tallying 4 runs. Oakland ended up with 24
hits for the game while Pittsburgh had 10.

The winning pitcher was Ben Sheets(5-8) who allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. The
loss was charged to Brad Lincoln(2-2).

June 24, 2010 Phillies 11, Indians 7

The seventh inning of this game is most likely one of the more interesting innings i have ever played. The inning began with a 4-1 Phillies lead. They would lose that lead when Cleveland scores four to take a 5-4 lead, but the Phils get those four back plus three more and end the inning with an 11-5 lead. Overall between the two teams in the inning, 18 men come to the plate with 11 runs scored.

Interleague play concludes next series with the Red Sox stopping in San Francisco to battle the Giants, while the Phillies begin their longest road trip of the year with a stop in Toronto for the semi-annual 1993 World Series rematch. Since interleague play began in 1997, the Phils and Blue Jays have played every year except the four years from 2002-05.

June 24, 2010 Red Sox 10, Rockies 4

The Sox score first and score last in putting double digits on the Rockies. Dustin Pedroia's 3-run homerun in the 2rd breaks a scoreless tie, but Colorado gets four runs off of Dice-K in the bottom of that 3rd inning. Bill Hall puts Boston back on top with a 2-run pinch-hit single in the 6th, and JD Drew adds to the lead with a pinch-hit 2-run bomb in the 9th to begin a five run inning. The pedestrian performance gets Matsuzaka his 6th win to tie Clay Buchholz for the team lead. That four run 3rd inning would prove to be the only inning that Colorado would score in.
