April 12, 2010 Twins 9, Red Sox 3 (Twins home opener)

The Minnesota Twins open their brand new ballpark, Target Field, with a thrashing of the Sox. Five runs in the first two innings off of Jon Lester put the Red Sox in a 5-0 hole that they could not climb out of. They would fall behind 7-0 before finally getting a couple of runs in the 6th on a 2-run shot for Youk off of former farmhand and ex-Expo Carl Pavano, but too little too late.

Pavano did help the Sox though, although not today it was almost 15 years ago! I am sure you recall back in 1997 when the Sox traded Pavano and Tony Armas Jr. to the Expos for Pedro Martinez, beginning Pedro's love affair with Boston.

At Target Field the Boston Red Sox were battered 9 to 3 by the Minnesota
Twins.

Boston fell behind quickly as the Minnesota offense came through in the first
inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The key at-bat was by Orlando
Hudson who brought the crowd to their feet when he clubbed a two-run home
run. Minnesota had a total of 9 hits for the game.

Carl Pavano(2-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Jon
Lester(0-2) took the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 7 runs in
5 and 1/3 innings.
