Strat-O-Matic Report
This line score I just had to show you. It isn't often that a team gets 15 hits in a game, and can only get one run across the plate!!
KANSAS CITY AT BALTIMORE
Royals.......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 - 1 15 0
Orioles......... 0 0 1 0 1 2 0 0 X - 4 8 0
Win:Bergesen(2-2) Loss:Davies(3-4) Save:Simon(1st)
Homeruns- N.Markakis(4th), M.Wieters(2nd)
I couldn't find out what the record would be for most hits with scoring only one run, but I did find out that the most hits for a team that was shut out is 14, done twice. In 1913, the Cubs shut out the Giants despite the Giants getting 14 hits, and in 1928 Milt Gaston of the Indians tosses the 14-hitter as he shuts out the Senators. More amazing, Gaston two years previously shut out the Red Sox with the Sox getting 12 hits and zero in the run collumn. In September of 2004 the Braves beat the Marlins 8-1 with the Marlins getting 13 hits in the loss.
I would think that the difference of 14 between runs and hits (zero and 14 and one and 15) would have to be the record since I can't find anything to prove otherwise, so I will say that the Royals set a record in futility today. No matter how you look at it, a serious lack of clutch hitting!!
