May 21, 2010 Red Sox 4, Phillies 2

Usually when I have my Sox-Phillies interleague games, I manage both teams, Sometimes though that can be a bit of a pain in the rear, so this season I decided to do something different. Since there are two series this year with the Phillies and Red Sox, I decided to put the away team on computer manager and I will do the of the home team in each series. For this series the computer will make all of the decisions regarding the Red Sox and I will do the Phillies manually. As for the game, Adrian Beltre is a one-man wrecking crew for the Red Sox as he accounts for all four runs of the game with a bases loaded double good for 3 RBI in the first inning and a solo homerun in the 3rd, all of National League ERA leader Cole Hamels. Hamels would settle down after that, but John Lackey held the Phillies in check for most of the game until they finally score off him after he had left the game already in the 8th.

Hideki Okajima allows Lackey's runner to score and is responsible for another run in the 9th on his own. With two on base for the Phils and zero outs in a two-run game, the computer takes Daniel Bard from the 'pen for the save attempt due to the recent trouble for Papelbon and Bard has no problems at all, striking out Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz and gets pinch-hitter Ben Francisco to ground out to end the game and record his first save of the season. For the Phillies, only once in their last eight games have they managed to score more than two runs.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (2-1. 5.48) and Kyle Kendrick (3-2, 4.99) do battle next game.

Adrian Beltre homered and had 4 RBI at Citizen's Bank Park as the Boston Red
Sox beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4 to 2.

Beltre enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He doubled clearing all three
ducks off the pond in the 1st inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in
the 3rd inning. Boston finished with 7 hits in the victory.

The victory went to John Lackey(3-2) who went 7 innings, allowing 1 run.
Daniel Bard recorded the save, his 1st. Cole Hamels(6-2) was the losing
pitcher.

Boston now has a record of 20-23. With the loss, Philadelphia has a record of
6-4 lately, 24-17 overall.
