| John Lackey finally puts that $82.5 million arm to work, facing one over the minimum in a dominating performance over Oakland. Not too hard to dominate when your opponent walks 8 batters anyway! Lackey retired the first 16 straight until Mark Ellis singled with one out in the 6th for the first A's runner of the game, although it was almost broken up much sooner than that. Kurt Suzuki led off the 4th with a searing double to left, Bill Hall throws the ball to first and Youk steps on the bag - and Suzuki is called out! Apparently he missed first base rounding the bag, so he is out on appeal with Hall getting the putout. That would have loomed very important had things worked out differently in theh it department. |

John Lackey didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Boston Red Sox beat
the Oakland Athletics by a score of 4 to 0.
Lackey(4-2) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Oakland batters. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and no walks in 9 innings
seeing his ERA drop from 4.91 to 4.29. The right-handed Lackey had his
no-hit bid broken up by Mark Ellis who singled with one out in the 6th
inning. After the 3rd inning, neither team was able to score.
Gio Gonzalez(5-3) suffered the loss. 'When Lackey is on like that it is a
tough game to play, no doubt about it,' Bob Geren said. 'He always pitches
well against us.'
