| Just wanted to show you this, as it may seem hard to believe that the Red Sox have the worst pitching in the American League right now! Their team ERA of 4.86 is also second worst in all of baseball, ahead of the sad-sack Pittsburgh Pirates. Were the Sox to finish the year with the worst ERA in the AL, it would mark only the second time in team history that it would happen. The only other time the Red Sox were last in ERA was in 1966, and even then during the pitcher's era it was a 3.92! That would be a great ERA nowadays. Only five Sox teams have ever had a worse ERA than the current 4.86, including two teams from the 1990s. The worst in team history is 5.02, back in 1932 when the Red Sox had their worst season ever at 43-111. The 1996 team had a 4.98, 4.97 in 1925, 4.93 in 1994, 4.89 in 1940 and 4.88 in 1950. |
