Kansas City averts the sweep by taking the finale of the series. Bruce Chen, with his first start of the season, goes 8 shutout innings to improve to 5-0. Jon Lester is no slouch, but as has been the problem so far this year the Sox can't get the support behind him and he gets the tough-luck loss and falls to 3-7 for the season. Billy Butler went hitless today for the Royals, so his hitting streak ends at 27 games and is the longest in the majors so far this season. Lester's ERA for the year - 3.19. How can he be 3-7? With a run support that is less then his ERA, that's how - run support of 3.18!

Bruce Chen had a strong outing at Fenway Park where the Kansas City Royals
beat the Boston Red Sox by the score of 2 to 0.
 
Kansas City jumped on top of Boston in the 3rd inning plating one baserunner
utilizing 2 base hits.  That was all the offense they were to need.  Boston
was out-hit by Kansas City, 8 hits to 4.  
 
Chen(5-0) allowed no runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Joakim
Soria gained credit for his 15th save.  Jon Lester(3-7) was the loser.  He
pitched 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 1 walk.
 
Kansas City now has a record of 26-25.  With this loss, Boston has a 6-4
record of late, 25-27 overall.
