| Jonathan Papelbon is given another chance after last games loss, but again today blows a sure win. Paps gets the first two outs in the top of the 9th in a 1-0 Sox lead, but can't get that third out after Joe Kubel singles, Delmon Young knocks Kubel home with a double to tie the game and Alexi Casilla triples to bring Young across the plate with the go ahead and eventual winning run, at which point Manny Declarmen takes over. 7 2/3 shutout innings by Jon Lester, and a sure win, gets flushed down the toilet as Paps gets his 5th blown save of the season and second in two days. Next up for the Sox is the always entertaining and almost annual Red Sox-Phillies interleague matchup. The Phils and Sox have met every year since interleague began except for 2002 and 2007, and have had home-and-home series in 2006 and this year. The first series will be in Philadelphia and will feature pitching matchups of John Lackey vs. Cole Hamels, Dice-K vs. Kyle Kendrick and Tim Wakefield against Roy Halladay. The second series, in Boston, will be when the rest of the interleague schedule gets going in mid-June. |

In a great finish the Minnesota Twins came back in the top of the ninth and
held on to win over the Boston Red Sox by a score of 2 to 1 at Fenway
Park.
Minnesota scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After two were out Jason Kubel opened up the rally as
he banged out a single. Delmon Young was next and he doubled. Alexi Casilla
then tripled. Nick Punto struck out, unable to help the rally. Neither team
was able to score until the 6th inning.
The win was credited to Matt Guerrier(2-1) who went 3 innings allowing no
runs. Jesse Crain gained credit for his 5th save. Jonathan Papelbon(0-2) was
charged with the loss in relief.
'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Young said. 'If you just
keep trying good things can happen!'
