| Both starters seem to take the day off, as through the first 2 1/2 innings the Phils take a 7-5 lead! A huge 3-run homerun for Chris Coghlan in the 6th gives the Marlins a one run lead, but the Phils force extra innings after getting Carlos Ruiz home after he tripled to lead off the 9th. Raul Ibanez scores the eventual winnin grun in the 13th after getting on base via a triple of his own. After mentioning about Jon Lester's bad run support, I don't think anything can be as bad as this game's starter for the Marlins, Anibel Sanchez. Coming into today, his 3.28 ERA had gotten him a grand total of two wins for a 2-7 record. The miniscule run support of a 1.89 has something to do with that. That went up today with the 8 runs scored by Florida (along with his ERA), but Sanchez gets a no decision out of all of it. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 2nd: Brian Schneider blocked the plate, saving a run!
Chase Utley had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Sun Life Stadium as the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the struggling Florida Marlins in 13 innings 9 to 8.
Both teams were tied at 8 runs apiece after nine innings. Philadelphia was
victorious in the 13th inning. Raul Ibanez tripled. Carlos Ruiz followed,
but he was set down on strikes. Shane Victorino then slapped a single.
Wilson Valdez was up next and he grounded into a double play. It was roller
coaster of a game as the lead change hands 6 times.
The victory was credited to Antonio Bastardo(3-0) who went 2 innings, allowing
no runs. Jay Buente(0-1) was the loser in relief. The Philadelphia
ballclub's record now stands at 29-20. Florida can't seem to snap out of
their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last
couple weeks.
