| The Phillies choke not once, but twice in gift-wrapping the Mets a win. A 1-1 game after the regulation nine goes to a 2-1 Phillie lead in the 11th, but Jose Contreras can't hold it and the Mets retie the game. The Phillies get another run to take the lead again in the top of the 13th, and this time J. C. Romero does the choking singlehandedly as he walks three in the bottom of the 13th including both Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo with the bases loaded as the tying and winning runs trot home uncontested. Angel Pagan had 2 base hits as the New York (NL) Mets defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies in 13 innings 4 to 3 at Citi Field.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Finally, New York (NL)
pulled the game out in the 13th inning. David Wright led off and started the
attack as he delivered a one-base hit. Pagan came next and he banged out a
single, and an error was also committed. Henry Blanco then was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Two outs later Jose Reyes came up and he
drew a walk. Luis Castillo stepped into the box and drew a walk. New York
(NL) rapped out 11 hits for the night.
The victory went to Ryota Igarashi(2-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
J.C. Romero(1-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.
Wth the win New York (NL) now has a record of 29-18. With the loss, the
Philadelphia ballclub's record is 26-19.
