May 7, 2010 Yankees 6, Red Sox 5

All runs were scored off of the two starters, Josh Beckett and Phil Hughes, in your typically entertaining Red Sox/Yanks contest. The big shot was a 2-out bases loaded double by Leigh Teixeira's husband in the top of the 3rd inning good for three RBI and basically the difference in the game. The Yankees relievers hold the Sox hitless over the final 3 2/3 innings, with Mariano Rivera slamming the door pitching perfect ball against the meat of the Sox order in the 8th and 9th innings as he retires hitters 2 through 7 in the order in succession for the save.

Mariano Rivera closed the door on Boston and Mark Teixeira hit 2 doubles and
had 3 RBI at Fenway Park as the New York (AL) Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox
6 to 5.

New York (AL) scored 3 runs in the decisive 3rd inning. The key offensive
moment was provided by Teixeira who deflated the spirits of the home town
crowd when he doubled with all three runners coming home. Rivera relieved
and was untouched by Boston as he recorded the save, his 9th.

Phil Hughes(3-2) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. The
losing pitcher was Josh Beckett(2-4). By surrending 6 runs in 5 innings his
ERA jumped from 5.28 to 6.06.

New York (AL) now has a record of 17-11. With the loss, Boston has a record of
6-4 lately, 15-15 overall.
