| The Phillies look to get all of the runs they need in the first inning, scoring five times and knocking Rockies starter Greg Smith from the game after only 2/3 of an inning and had the lead throughout. But it is an unearned run in the top of the 9th that proves to be the deciding run, as Brad Lidge allows a 2-run homerun to Seth Smith (no relation to Greg Smith) for what would have been the tying run if not for that 9th inning run. A sloppy save for Lidge, but still his first save of the year. Also a rarity - a triple play! After a walk to Jason Giambi and a single by Melvin Mora puts Giambi at third, Ian Stewart lines one to Chase Utley for the out. Utley zips a throw to third baseman Placido Polanco to double Giambi off of third for out number two, and Polanco throws across the diamond to Ryan Howard who catches Mora before he can get back to the bag at first base to complete the triple play. |

WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Clint Barmes robbed Ryan Howard of a base hit.
Bot 6th: Philadelphia turns a triple play!
Jayson Werth had 2 base hits as the Philadelphia Phillies topped the Colorado
Rockies by a score of 6 to 5 at Coors Field.
Colorado fell behind quickly as the Philadelphia offense came through in the
first inning when they scored 5 runs on 5 hits. The key offensive moment was
provided by Wilson Valdez who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he
delivered a single which was good for two runs. Philadelphia had 14 hits for
the night while Colorado had 10.
The win went to Kyle Kendrick(2-2) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Brad Lidge was credited with his 1st save. Greg Smith(1-4) was hit with the
loss.
'He gutted it out' Charlie Manuel said of Kendrick. 'I was very impressed by
his tenacity.'
