The first game of the year in The Bronx goes into the win collumn as 2-run homeruns by Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz lead he charge. Daisuke Matsuzaka has the typical Dice-Kish start, allowing 10 hits but only 2 runs while striking out 10 in getting the win. With the save situation negated by the 2-run Papi 8th inning homer, Scott Schoenweis takes the 9th and does allow the tying run to get to the on deck circle, but that is as close as the Yankees get.

Daisuke Matsuzaka retired 10 batters on strikeouts at Yankee Stadium where the
Boston Red Sox beat the New York (AL) Yankees 6 to 2.
 
Matsuzaka(2-1) had a solid outing for Boston.  He went 6 innings and surrended
up 10 hits and 2 walks.  New York (AL) out-hit Boston 12 to 7, but Boston
ended up with more runs.  
 
Phil Hughes(4-3) was the losing pitcher. Matsuzaka was humble when questioned
about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight.
But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was called.  That
was an extremely well called game!'
